Zanzibar's No. 1 waste management company
About us
We offer a fully integrated waste management solution for Zanzibar, handling all types of daily waste produced by both private and industrial/commercial sectors and ensure that it is processed in a sustainable way. We were founded in 2011, and now working with around 100 hotels on the Island. We hope you will be one of them soon!
Services
No time to waste
The Problem
The Zanzibar archipelago generates over 96,000 metric tonnes of waste a year. Due to a lack of proper waste management, an equivalent of the weight of a Boeing 747 gets dumped uncontrolled into Zanzibar’s environment every day, contaminating the environment and causing serious implications to public health and the economy.
Solutions

Our collaboration with Ozeankind®
Zanrec and Ozeankind - Environmental POWER to the children of Zanzibar and for a cleaner Zanzibar
Ozeankind is an NGO supporting children environmental education and is funding international recycling projects. Interestingly, the name „Ozeankind“ has a double-meaning: it means „child of the ocean“ (what we all are) as well as „being kind to the ocean“ (what we should be).
Zanrec and Ozeankind® are collaborating in different projects - including the environmental education for school children, the plastic-bottle cages on the schoolyards and this by far is the biggest project - the Ozeankind® Recycling SwopShops powered by Zanrec which we have in Kendwa, Paje, Matemwe, Nungwi, Kizimkazi and Kinyasini as of today.
A Recycling SwopShop is a place for the local children where they can exchange empty plastic bottles into items for the school, for things to play, hygiene products or clothes - so we combine environmental education with empowerment for the kids and we help them wherever we can. More than 3.000 children from Zanzibar are part of our project as of today.
If you wanna know more about the collaboration, the projects or just wanna help, just check the website of Ozeankind® (english available) or contact the representative on the island, Fatma, directly.
